The initial process of construction of the church dates back to the late Middle Ages. The architect and urbanist Arnolfo Di Cambio started to design it in 1296. After him, many others like Giotto, Francesco Talenti, and Giovanni di Lapo Ghini continued the undertaking. Then, it was all finished in Renaissance times, in 1434, when Filippo Brunelleschi completed the breathtaking dome, called ‘il cupolone’ by Florentines.

The problem really has nothing to do with the specific tour but with the organization at the Duomo. When you pay for skip line, you don't expect to wait in line for 20 mins .
