The Bargello Museum is located in the Palazzo del Podestà in Florence. A royal decree of June 22, 1865 declared it the first national museum of united Italy. The Bargello Museum became the first national museum in Italy dedicated to the arts of the Middle Ages and Renaissance.

Monuments of the Bargello Museum It has 3 floors and the museum houses masterpieces by.
Michelangelo, Sansovino, Cellini, Giambologna, Ammannati, Buonarroti and many works by the Della Robbia family. It contains a fine collection of ceramics (majolica), textiles, tapestries, ivory, silver, armor and coins.

On the second floor is the impressive Hall of Donatello with the Florentine artist's most famous works (David, Attis, St. George, Marzocco), Luca della Robbia's majolica sculptures, and bronze panels by Ghiberti and Brunelleschi; on the same level, collections of Islamic art, of the Carrand donation, the Chapel (with the oldest effigy of Dante Alighieri), the Hall of Ivories, the Hall of the Fourteenth Century, and the Hall of Italian Majolica.

On the top floor is one of the main collections of masterpieces by Andrea and Giovanni della Robbia, the Sala dei Bronzetti, the Sala di Verrocchio, the Sala del Medagliere, and the Sala dell'Armeria where the pieces that survived the dispersion of the Medici display armory are kept.

With the recent reform of the Ministry, the Museum has been given autonomy and is the leader of other related Florentine museums (Museo delle Cappelle Medicee, Museo di Palazzo Davanzati - Museo dell'Antica Casa Fiorentina, Museo di Orsanmichele, Museo di Casa Martelli).

Why visit the Bargello Museum?
The Bargello Museum preserves an extraordinary selection of sculpture and minor arts. The history of the Bargello building is considered the oldest of Florence's public buildings. A wonderful museum where its architecture is worth seeing without forgetting, of course, the works of Michelangelo, Donatello and Giambologna that make this place one of the most impressive in Florence.

This medieval palace now houses the Bargello Museum, started as a residence for the Captain of the People, then for the Mayor of Florence and finally for the Captain of Justice. The building became a prison during the 14th century, and after complete restoration, the Bargello Museum was officially born in 1865.

The Bargello Museum houses one of Michelangelo's earliest sculptures, "Bacchus" (1496), deliberately created to look very old, the "Tondo Pitti" (1504), "Brutus," "David-Apollo," as well as works by Donatello, Ghiberti, Verrocchio and Giambologna. Last but not least is the Carrand collection, consisting of precious Roman, Byzantine and medieval ivory pieces; not to mention Lombard and Baroque jewelry, or glazed tiles made in France and scientific instruments. Also of interest are the rich ceramic rooms and weapons located on the second floor.
